Club Rules
Review the official Kingston Avid Anglers rules before fishing or joining events. These keep tournaments fair, safe, and fun.
- Boat & safety gear: All boats must be a minimum of 14 ft. and equipped with a WORKING KILL SWITCH attached to the driver while the combustion engine runs. A working livewell is mandatory. Maximum horsepower must not exceed the manufacturer’s rating plate.
- Insurance & card: Show proof of minimum $1,000,000 liability insurance and your Boater Safety Card to the tournament director at season start; keep both in the boat.
- Life jacket: A Canadian Coast Guard approved life jacket is required and must be worn whenever the combustion engine is running.
- Laws: All boating and MNR laws must be followed. Failure results in expulsion from Avid Anglers.
- No alcohol: Absolutely no alcohol consumption or possession during club tournament hours.
- Limit & size: Limit is 4 bass (LM/SM mixed). Minimum length is 12 inches (lower jaw to pinched tail). Short fish are not weighed and incur a 1 lb penalty.
- Catch & release: Max 5 bass in the livewell; only bass allowed. No culling of dead bass. Each dead bass at weigh-in is penalized 0.25 lb from total weight.
- Blast off: All blast offs are trickle starts.
- Courtesy distance: Maintain distance from competitors; no fishing within 100 yards of commercial nets or marina gas pumps.
- Protests: Tournament director decisions are final. Protests must be lodged before the protested angler weighs in; no fee.
- Bait: No live or prepared bait. Pork rinds/strips are allowed.
- Hours & check-in: Standard hours 0700–1500 (late fall: 0800–1600). Check in at least 30 minutes before blast off for livewell/boat inspection; if late, find another competitor to inspect before fishing.
- Late penalties: 1 lb penalty per minute late to weigh-in; more than 15 minutes late forfeits the day’s catch.
- Ties: First-place ties split first+second prizes and receive equal points.
- Locking: Locking is not permitted.
- Conduct: Unsportsmanlike conduct results in disqualification and/or removal from the club.
- Fish care: Handle fish to maximize survival; avoid weigh-in lineups. Do not release at weigh-in site—return fish to deeper, low-traffic water. Sportsmanship is expected.
- Have fun: HAVE FUN!!
